In what feels like some cruel trick of fate, last weekend the summer heat came out of nowhere and with that I found myself with a very unsuitable wardrobe.
Having moved to Bournemouth for the backend of summer last year, most of my summer wear has seemingly vanished from the face of the earth, but luckily boohoo had my back and have graciously sent me a choice of dress to style however I chose. This summer there’s a lot of focus on all things comfy, casual and chic – three things I happen to use commonly when describing my personal style, what a coincidence.
But don’t let this alter your view of this post, just because the outfit looks simply thrown on, believe me when I say there’s usually quite a bit of thought that has gone into it, and this is definitely one of those cases as I’m forever trying to weigh up the pros and cons of possible summer outfits, this was no difference.
Firstly, let me point out the choice on Boohoo was colossal. Yes, I got a free dress out of writing this post, but I can say with literally no bias that I’m Boohoo will have the dress for you, just because of the sheer number of items they have online! I decided upon the ‘Whatever’ Colour Block T-Shirt Dress, and in light of the big glowing orb in the sky, asked for their Sophie Black Cat Eye Sunglasses to accessorise.
Also joining the outfit are my new favourite summer shoes – the Summer Mule Espadrilles. These weren’t actually sent to me (trust me, I tried. I have no shame), but I loved them just so much that I simply had to go ahead and purchase them myself. Since first seeing the dress, I had this entire vision in my head for what the outfit could be, and it all depended on these shoes. Or, at least, that’s what I’m going to tell myself.
The thing I love about Boohoo is the quality to price ratio, and these shoes are absolutely no different. For a somewhat ridiculous £9, I got these beauties and have been wearing them pretty much ever since, including around the apartment. But hey, let’s get back to the stuff I was sent to talk about.
Sizing the dress was a little tricky, as I wasn’t quite sure what vibe I wanted. I ended up opting for a slightly oversized look, and went for a size 12, as my vision was that of a classic paparazzi photo of some celeb on their way to get an icecream whilst out and about in the unbearable heat. Just casual and comfy, but with a hint of charm.
I perhaps could have done with going up a few more sizes, as it wasn’t quite as loose as I originally wanted, so keep this in mind if you’re wanting to do the same. I usually wear an 8/10, but could have done with sizing up to a 14/16. I still feel incredibly cute when wearing it, though.
I don’t tend to wear sunglasses during the summer, as it means I have to subject my eyes to contact lenses in order to see – however, after many a squinty photo, Danni introduced me to the art of using sunglasses to nail that summer pose whilst the sun is in your eyes, and I was dying to test it out. I love how much more professional the shots came out.

I don’t believe that you should *only* stick to the sunglass shape that experts say to suit your face, there are so many styles out there, why not have fun and explore? Retro looks are back, nobody proving the case more than the one and only Sinéad Crowe, and with these such huge and distinct shapes, I think they give character to pretty much any outfit as the only accessory. Simple, and straight to the point. Isn’t that what a British summer is for?
Living less than 10 minutes from the beach, you best be sure that I try to spend every moment I can by it, and so the vision for this outfit had to suit that lifestyle. I chose the Dress in its white and grey colourway for just how simple it is to throw on. Casual, beachy, oversized vibes – perfect for popping to the beach, or the shops with the dog, whilst still being comfortable in the knowledge that I look great.
This outfit is so completely perfect for me. I’ve never been that comfortable in t-shirt dresses, but this one spoke to me. The simple colour block just adds a little something….extra. I love it. And I don’t know about you but, I’m already picturing it paired with a pair of over the knee boots and a cardigan for autumn/winter.
You can bet your flip flops it will be making a reappearance. It may just be a little, colder… When that happens.
