Christmas is such an odd, but beautiful time of the year. People everywhere resolve themselves to being completely okay with eating whatever they want, buying whatever they want and, more importantly, dressing themselves however they want. Nothing is too much, everything should be sparkly and a hint of cosiness is oh so desirable.
New Look has been a stand-out favourite brand of mine for about as long as I can remember. Heading into my local shop, armed with my pocket money and fashion-conscious friends, aided me in creating my own style and was the gateway drug into what is now my love of all things fashion.
So many great memories come flooding back anytime I walk into any one of their stores, taking me right back to 14-year-old han trying on more clothes than I could afford, but those memories are quickly put to the back of my mind as I get engrossed in their latest ranges, normally leaving being totally obsessed with an item or three. When I was approached to review their new Going Out Collection, I knew joy like never before, only this time instead of my parents funding little han of 14, it was New Look themselves. How wild.
My first thought when putting together an outfit for Christmas was to go incredibly festive – red, glitter and fluffy everything! However, upon entering the store my heart had other choices. My eyes immediately landed on a velvet, glittery dress, their Pink Glitter Velvet Frill Trim Wrap Dress.
There were two colour options, pink and black. The black was perfect for a night out, and would most likely be perfect all-year-round, but it was the pink that called to me strongest. In colour, it’s an almost burnt blush, in velvet, with glitter. It ticked all my boxes for a party dress, with a little added sparkle making it perfect for this time of year, oh, and the cut… It’s incredibly flattering.
A dress, however, is only as good as the items you pair it with, the immediate concern, shoes. I didn’t have anything in my collection that would go, leaving me with the pleasurable issue of having to buy a new pair. For those who for some reason haven’t been before, New Look’s shoe section is literally shoe heaven – no – really, it’s called shoe heaven, and it’s so aptly named.
After much deliberation (20 seconds) I picked a nude heel, so to accentuate the legs and stick with the nude tone of the dress, New Look’s Light Brown Suedette Stiletto Heel Pointed Courts

As a stand out accessory, to complete the look I had in my head, I picked out a rose gold choker to give the outfit the very instagram/2017 vibe I’ve been all about recently. Jumpers with choker cutouts have been all the rage recently and I adore the look, so adding a chunky choker to a v-neck dress, to me, felt like another way to achieve this look, whilst keeping the ‘going out’ style. The Rose Gold Embellished Teardrop Choker really finished the look of something beautiful.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking… Han, it’s December, why would I want to be walking around in a short dress with nothing but stunning suede shoes to keep me warm – I hear you. That’s exactly why I made the incredibly genius decision to get this ridiculously fluffy coat that I am never going to take off because it’s so crazy fluffy and warm.
There were a few coats to pick from, all of which would have taken the outfit in a completely different direction. The decider, in the end, was down to colour, rather than cut. The blush pink of the faux fur was exactly what I wanted, keeping with the very instagrammable aesthetic, whilst bringing a little bit of that classic Hollywood glamour that Christmas deserves.
The Pink Faux Fur Collarless Jacket completes the look wonderfully, oh, and keeps me warm. In truth, the next time I wear this outfit I will be including some nude tights too, just for that added layer, but standing out there in the middle of town, on the 6th of December, wasn’t all that bad, thanks to the fluffiness of the coat, of course.
I adore this look. It’s so… Me, and there’s not been that many times I’ve been able to say that with such certainty. I felt so incredibly glamorous walking around the Bournemouth Christmas Market, with plenty of folk turning heads. Perhaps I was a little overdressed for 1pm on a Wednesday, but I know it will be simply perfect for a good lot of the Christmas parties I’ll be attending this season and will be my go-to for what I’d consider the most important occasion of the year: My family’s boxing day meal.
Thanks again to New Look for giving me this opportunity to collaborate, and to experience some of the items from their insanely well-curated Going Out Collection. Having to pick just one outfit from what is such a lovely collection has left me wanting more, and hey, it’s Christmas… Right?
