turning 21

A week ago today I turned 21. To celebrate Tom and I drove up to the Midlands where we had a lunch with both of our families. It was such a lovely day. I had such a good time that I actually forgot to take any photos of what I was wearing as per hxanou tradition – so I found it only fit to stage some photos so I could talk a little bit about turning 21.

My dress is from Topshop. It was in the sale for £7 and I immediately fell in love.. and then put it back on the rack. I’ve been on somewhat of a spending ban since moving to Bournemouth, what with being broke and all, so I was reluctant to buy a new dress just for one day but after a really good hot chocolate at Thorntons Tom convinced me and we decided if it was still there then I should get it.

It was still there.

Its nothing like a dress I would usually pick. Its incredibly low cut, yet still somehow modest enough that I felt comfortable wearing it to a family meal. The material looks airy but has some weight to it that means the dress falls in a flattering way no matter how bad your posture is. Granted, I did have to buy a new bra to take full advantage of what the dress had to offer but in this day and age, a low cut bra is practically a necessity.

On the day I paired it with some Stan Smiths as I had planned to be walking around Birmingham shopping to my heart’s content (well, that and I wasn’t actually feeling very well and wanted to enjoy my birthday rather than suffer for fashion lol) but when I arrived home waiting for me was a very exciting package from Cari’s Closet and inside the pair of shoes of my dreams.

These are exactly the kind of shoes I saw myself wearing with this dress. The exact kind of shoes I couldn’t find anywhere in any of the stores near me. They’re nude with thin straps that go up the ankle but with a twist.. a transparent strap over the toes. They’re the perfect combination of completely transparent heels and just your standard nude ones.

Turning 21 was surprisingly one of the less scary things I’ve done this year what with moving out of my parents home and all that.. plus I’ve been looking forward to my 21st for years since it was finally a birthday on a Saturday! the perfect day for a birthday. I’d been waiting years for this!

I feel like I’ve grown a lot in the past year. I’m more comfortable with the way that I look and just generally happier – something I never thought I’d be able to say.

Heres to the beginning of my legit adult life, my grotty apartment stairs that I couldn’t be bothered to fix in photoshop and.. looking for a job because I can’t afford to run a fashion blog 😂

I recently reached 400 followers on instagram, and a photo of what Tom got me for my birthday got way over 400 likes (!!) so if you aren’t yet following me over there I would really appreciate it! instagram.com/hxanou
